ACTION: Call To Vote No on Anri-Climate-Science "Honest" Act

From Indivisible Oregon...

**CALL TO ACTION**
Wednesday, April 5, 2017
——————————————————————————————
VOTE “NO” ON ANTI-CLIMATE-SCIENCE “HONEST” ACT!
——————————————————————————————

Last week, the House passed two bills that cudgel the voice of the EPA: the so-called “HONEST” Act (HR 1430) and the Science Advisory Board Reform Act (HR 1431).  According to the League of Conservation Voters: “These two bills are backdoor attempts to undermine the Environmental Protection Agency’s ability to use science in decision-making and obstruct the process for developing effective public health safeguards.” (http://bit.ly/2o12fqd)

--HR 1430 prohibits the EPA from using science that is “not transparent or reproducible.” This is an assault on climate science, since collecting data on global patterns and events is not “reproducible” in the lab, and the reams of raw data are often not in published form.

--HR 1430 insists the EPA publish personal medical histories of test subjects in its “transparent and reproducible” demand, which goes against the basis of public health declarations of privacy.  Studies conducted using confidential HIPAA contracts would be void.

SAMPLE SCRIPT:
“My name is [--] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon. I am outraged by the recent House efforts to sabotage the EPA and make it harder for them to use scientific research to protect our health and the environment, by approving HR 1430 and HR 1431.  When these bills go to the Senate, I am calling on the Senator to vote NO on these anti-climate science bills. Please make sure these bills end in the House!
