ACTION: Call to Stop Deportation in Safe Spaces

**CALL TO ACTION**
Thursday, April 20, 2017

STOP THE DEPORTATION FORCE IN SAFE SPACES
———————————————
In January, President Trump signed an executive order that called for building a wall on the US/Mexico border and denial of federal funds to sanctuary cities (http://abcn.ws/2kza9Ta). Since then, the Trump Administration has increased the rate of deportations, and we have seen the results here in Oregon (http://bit.ly/2mMVzZb) -- but Oregon is fighting back.
- Three counties’ Sheriffs’ Offices have announced they will not honor ICE holds (http://bit.ly/2opurSc) following a ruling by the U.S District Court in Oregon that ICE holds are unconstitutional (http://bit.ly/2nJNPfy).
- The Oregon Chief Justice sent a letter to the Attorney General Sessions and Homeland Security Secretary Kelly asking for ICE arrests at federal court houses to stop (http://bit.ly/2p9lKv6).
- Governor Kate Brown has prohibited state agencies from cooperating with federal immigration officials (http://bit.ly/2o74Ex9).
S 845 and HR 1815 would expand these protections on a federal level by blocking ICE agents from sensitive locations such as schools, hospitals, places of worship, and organizations that help crime victims and victims of abuse. These protections are critical for at risk populations.
Several members of Oregon’s Congressional delegation are supporting this legislation, but they can do more -- and we must demand they do. And ALL Oregon’s Members of Congress must join the fight. People’s lives are being threatened... not the mention our civil liberties and our constitution.
