ACTION: CALL TO DEMAND CONGRESS RECONVENE TO DEBATE MILITARY ACTION IN SYRIA

From Indivisible Oregon:

**CALL TO ACTION**
Monday, April 10, 2017
——————————————————————————————
DEMAND THAT CONGRESS RECONVENE TO DEBATE MILITARY ACTION IN SYRIA
——————————————————————————————
On April 6, Trump launched air strikes against Syria in response to President Assad’s reprehensible act of using chemical weapons against Syria’s own citizens, including children.
- Trump’s action signaled an abrupt change in policy toward Syria. The legality of his actions is debatable: http://nyti.ms/2oPyD0m
- On April 7, UN Ambassador Nikki Haley addressed the UN Security Council and signaled that the US would contemplate further unilateral action if the UN Security Council fails to act: http://cnn.it/2phUl9y
- Our country should not be embroiled in war without a clear goal, strategy, and Congressional approval. http://wapo.st/2phU5r4
All of Oregon’s Members of Congress except for Rep Greg Walden (OR-2) have called on Trump to obtain Authorization for the Use of Military Force from Congress:
- Sen Merkley: http://bit.ly/2oVXbBK
- Sen Wyden: http://bit.ly/2pjw5Ec
- Rep DeFazio: http://bit.ly/2nnnio5
- Rep Blumenauer: http://bit.ly/2ogZcbI
- Rep Bonamici: http://bit.ly/2oQ9umq
- Rep Schrader: http://bit.ly/2ogXqrd
However, these statements are not enough. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has called on Speaker Paul Ryan to end the recess to return and debate future action in Syria. We’re asking ALL our Members of Congress to follow her example. Further, Congress should take action to allow Syrian refugees back in the country. If we are going to fire missiles at a country we have a moral obligation to grant refuge to that country’s innocents.
