REVERBERATIONS OF COMPASSION
“You have heard of collateral damage. Now hear of collateral renewal. Every time we act in kindness, in mercy, in love: the impact of our actions radiates out to touch many more lives than the ones in our immediate vicinity. Others we do not know will be affected. The reverberations of our compassion will circle the world. Collateral renewal – healing rippling out, never ending."
-- Stephen Charleston
EARTH DAY
Earth Day came out of recognizing that people are part of nature, not its adversary. Heather Cox Richardson describes its meaning and history as we celebrate Earth Day today, April 22, 2024.

PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND PUBLIC SPACES
"I figured out over the years that public schools are some of the last public spaces in our country that have not been privatized. I figured out they are the epicenter of so many communities. I figured out they are the places we learn civil discourse and learn to get along with folks who aren’t like us. I figured out they are (small d) democratic institutions meant to make us better. We are better for them."
-- Jess Piper,
The View from Rural Missouri newsletter, April 3, 2024

IMAGINING THE FUTURE

“For all its marvelous creativity, the human imagination often fails when turned to the future…. When Donald Trump is the subject, imagination falters further. Trump operates so far outside the normal bounds of human behavior — never mind normal political behavior — that it is difficult to accept what he may actually do, even when he declares his intentions openly.”
— David From,
 The Atlantic, January-February, 2024

TRUMP'S FIRST TRIAL STARTS TODAY
TRUMP'S ALARMING COGNITIVE DECLINE
"Given this, we wanted to hear from John Gartner, founder of Duty To Warn, a group of mental health professionals who have been raising the alarm about Trump’s increasingly sociopathic behavior since 2017. Now in 2024, Gartner has an even more dire warning about Trump: that there are increasing signs the former president is heading fast down the road toward dementia."
-- Jay Kuo,
Status Kuo newsletter, April 11, 2024

Jay Kuo's interview with Dr. Gartner highlights numerous specific behavioral indicators of Trump's cognitive decline. Worth reading the interview and readers' comments.
THEY SAID WE COULDN'T DEFEAT LNG.
BUT WE DID.
WE CAN DEFEAT TRUMP, TOO.

For 12 years area activists worked to stop a massive fossil fuel terminal and pipeline proposed for Warrenton. They raised money, testified at hearings, demonstrated, wrote letters to the editor, worked with Columbia Riverkeeper's scientific and legal staff, and provided a steady flow of information to area residents about the proposal. This persistent local opposition triumphed eight years ago on April 15, 2016 when Oregon LNG admitted defeat of its fossil fuel export facility and pipeline proposed for the Skipanon Peninsula, on the Columbia River.

Defeating Oregon LNG took 12 years.
We only need the next 7 months to defeat Trump and MAGA.
Onward!

"DEMOCRACY IS A CHOICE"

"Indifference is a choice. Cynicism is a choice. “Just doing my job” is a choice.

"Democracy is a choice.

"Defending democracy is a duty that appears unbidden when Americans least expect it. Every generation before ours has discharged that duty honorably. Ours cannot be the one to falter."
-- Robert Hubbell, Today's Edition, April 2, 2024

FACTS TO COUNTER GOP MISINFORMATION
Among other actions, DNWSG weekly counters GOP lies with accurate information.
PROTECTING THE SYSTEM OF JUSTICE
"“The Nation is witnessing the determined delegitimization of both its Federal and State judiciaries and the systematic dismantling of its system of justice and Rule of Law by a single man — the former President of the United States,” retired judge J. Michael Luttig said on X concerning Trump’s threats and insults directed at the courts. “Ultimately, however, it is the responsibility of the entire nation to protect its courts and judges, its Constitution, its Rule of Law, and America’s Democracy from vicious attack, threat, undermine, and deliberate delegitimization at the hands of anyone so determined.” In other words, judges must clamp down on unacceptable conduct, and it is the voters’ responsibility to not to hand him a get-out-of-jail-free card by electing him to office."
-- Jennifer Rubin,
The Washington Post, April 3, 2024
