Action: Meaningful Immigration Reform

 

MEANINGFUL IMMIGRATION REFORM REQUIRES FLIPPING SENATE AND WINNING WHITE HOUSE

Background

For past 4 years, heartless Trump administration’s made mockery of Statue of Liberty. 

House Democrats have fought back, passing: 

  

  • American Dream and Promise Act: pathway to citizenship for DACA and protection of temporary protected status holders 

  • Heroes Act: extends immigrants’ work permits and protection from deportation, grants undocumented immigrant families stimulus checks and health care benefits 

  • No Ban Act: vacates existing travel bans, prevents future ones 

  • Access to Counsel Act: affirms right of detained immigrants to contact attorneys, limits detention length and requires least restrictive settings 

These, and overhaul of immigration system, is only possible if Dems gain control of the Senate and end the filibuster, and Biden wins the White House.  Biden’s agenda includes: 

 

  • Immediately certifying and creating pathway to citizenship for DACA and TPS holders 

  • Putting 100-day moratorium on deportations 

  • Within first 100 days proposing legislation with pathway to citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrants 

  • Rescinding travel ban 

  • Reversing all Trump’s other immigration policies 

  • Raising refugee cap in 2021 to 125,000  

 To achieve a society that values immigrants, we have just four more days to GOTV to ensure Democrats are in control.

Action: We Can Have A Senate That Will Pass Anti-Racism

 

WE CAN HAVE A SENATE THAT WILL PASS ANTI-RACISM LEGISLATION

Background

Following the murder of George Floyd, Democrats in Congress promised legislation to combat systemic racism in our country.  

In June, the House passed The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.   It would ban police chokeholds and no-knock warrants, add restrictions on the use of deadly force and make law enforcement more accountable. 

The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act along with more than a dozen other anti-racism bills have been passed by the House or introduced in the Senate by Democrats.  They’ve all been blocked by Mitch McConnell. 

These bills would do things like:   

  • hold law enforcement accountable for misconduct in court, improve transparency through data collection, and reform police training and policies   

  • combat hate crimes and assist hate crime victims   

  • advance the safety and well-being of immigrants and refugees   

  • provide for public health research and investment into understanding and eliminating structural racism and police violence   

  • end the racial disparities in COVID-19 testing, treatment, health outcomes, and vaccine access   

  • make investments to end the obscenely high rate of preventable maternal mortality among Black women 

We have five more days to Get Out The Vote and get Democratic leadership in the Senate and White House that will work for justice and an anti-racist America.

Trump and his GOP know they are losing and are desperate to cement their minority rule to help themselves and their donors.  That's why they installed their illegitimate supreme court justice.

We must show them we will not back down. Every One Counts and Every Vote Counts.  First, we win this election with a landslide. Then Congress passes laws to make sure Everyone Counts.  We get rid of the filibuster, expand and reform the courts, and abolish the electoral college.

Background

Democrats work For The People. 

  • House Democrats passed HR1 -- the For the People Act -- in early 2019. This legislation restores election and government integrity. McConnell has refused to bring it to a vote. Why? Because it ends gerrymandering, voter suppression, dark money, and thus his minority rule. Democracy doesn't work for Trump or his GOP.

  • Senate Democrats held the floor all night on Sunday For the People and against GOP court packing. Trump sows hate, stoking his ego, lining his pockets, and promoting authoritarianism and violence. His GOP uses the resulting chaos and archaic Senate rules to pack the courts with ideologues to take away our health care and civil rights. 

    Trump and his GOP ignore our suffering, refusing to ensure we have the testing; contact tracing; PPE; and effective treatments needed to mitigate the pandemic or the financial resources to weather it. They deny climate chaos and dismiss attempts to change centuries of racist policies and brutality.

We deserve leaders who work For the People. We must use the next week to Get Out the Vote. Biden and state and local Democratic candidates will win when every absentee ballot is counted. We will win with leadership For the People.

Action: As Trump Surrenders To Covid, We Need A President To Fight The Outbreak

 

AS TRUMP SURRENDERS TO COVID, WE NEED A PRESIDENT TO FIGHT THE OUTBREAK

Background

A Covid wave is sweeping unchecked across America. Updated estimates warn that deaths will soar to a half million people in the coming months. 

Adding to the calamity, yesterday the Administration announced it can’t or won’t control the outbreak. 

And tonight, the Senate will confirm a Supreme Court justice who will likely strike down Obamacare. 

Amid the wreckage, millions of survivors hoping to rebuild their lives face another disaster, a devastated economy. 

As economists and the Fed have argued, supporting the economy is vital now to help struggling families and businesses. And once the virus is contained, the economy’s strength will determine the speed of America’s recovery. 

To help, the House passed a $2.2 trillion relief package in May, the HEROES Act, to support those facing financial ruin as well as a health crisis. Some provisions include:

  • $200 billion in hazard pay for essential workers,

  • A $1200 stimulus check,

  • An additional $600 in weekly unemployment benefits,

  • $100 billion in rental and food assistance,

  • Support for cash-strapped state and local governments,

Still, relief has been blocked in the Republican-controlled Senate. Trump said it was “DOA”. 

We need a president and Senators who fight for all of us. We are winning but keep fighting.
