ACTION: IT’S TIME FOR ACCOUNTABILITY AND A FUNCTIONAL GOVERNMENT

IT’S TIME FOR ACCOUNTABILITY AND A FUNCTIONAL GOVERNMENT

caely.barrett@gmail.com

Background

Trump has literally been campaigning since the day after his inauguration.  He has not spent one day governing.  As America has faced one crisis after another, he’s used the office and taken powers of the presidency to enrich himself and campaign for reelection.

COVID-19 and its effect on economic numbers is politically inconvenient for Trump.  So, Americans continue to die while he lies, muzzles scientists and health agencies, suppresses data and pretends it’s gone.

As Black Americans continue to be murdered and brutalized by police,  Trump denies the systemic racism in law enforcement and calls for an even more militarized action against BLM supporters.

Trump amplifies fear and racism to court those voters he believes will keep him in power. He’s a coward and a bully who hides his weakness behind violent language and militant imagery.

He believes rules don’t apply to him.  His convention scoffed at ethical restrictions against federal employees electioneering on the job.

He’s courted and protected Russian influence in our elections. On his behalf.  His intelligence office just cancelled Congressional election security briefings.

Our MOC’s must demand accountability.  And we must vote.

Trump claims that if Biden is elected lawlessness will prevail.  No, Donald.  Governance will.

ACTION: STOP SENSELESS KILLINGS OF BLACK CITIZENS AT THE HANDS OF POLICE

STOP SENSELESS KILLINGS OF BLACK CITIZENS AT HANDS OF POLICE

caely.barrett@gmail.com

Background

On Sunday, Kenosha police shot Jacob Blake, a 29-year-old black man, at close range in the back, outside his vehicle in which 3 of his children were passengers. Blake is the most recent known victim of police systematic racism—where rate of police shootings of blacks are more than twice as high as whites.

Protests must continue, per Matt Kemp, Colorado Rockies outfielder: ““In a world where we are the ones who need to remain calm while a trained professional points a gun in our face; a world where the people in uniforms who took an oath to protect us are the same ones killing us; a world where we become hashtags before we even reach our potential; we must stand together, speak out, protest, and be the change we demand, require, and need so bad.”

While the Biden/Harris campaign reached out to Blake’s family and called for systematic racism’s dismantling and officer accountability, GOP Convention stoked the fears of its dwindling white base.

In 66 days, your vote determines which vision of America prevails. But dismantling systematic racism cannot wait. To prevent more killings, Congress must act now.

ACTION: HEALTHCARE IS A BASIC HUMAN RIGHT THAT WE ALL DESERVE NOW

HEALTHCARE IS A BASIC HUMAN RIGHT THAT WE ALL DESERVE NOW

caely.barrett@gmail.com

Background

Adequate healthcare is a basic human right.  We all deserve to know that we can get care for ourselves and our families throughout our lives, including during a pandemic.

But this administration and this Senate leadership has a vision of healthcare driven only by profit.

Republicans produced no platform for the 2020 election.  Their policies will be dictated by Trump.  That means:

  • Destroying the ACA and the loss of healthcare coverage for millions

  • Gutting Medicaid

  • Ending Medicare

  • Damaging the USPS - and those who depend on it for prescriptions

  • Protecting companies from liability for inadequate COVID-19 protections

  • Preventing the CDC and other federal agencies from adequately dealing with this pandemic

  • Considering our current COVID-19 death rate acceptable.

The published Democratic platform means:

  • Expanding the ACA

  • Eliminating junk healthcare insurance with limited coverage and pre-existing condition exclusions

  • Protecting and expanding Medicaid

  • Protecting Medicare

  • Protecting workers rights to safe workplaces

  • Protecting the USPS

  • Enacting the HEROES Act which makes protection, testing, and treatment more accessible and provides assistance to local governments and health worker.

In 67 days, your vote can make your choice heard.  Today, use your voice to tell your MOC’s to protect the Post Office and pass the HEROES Act now.

ACTION: RECALL VACATIONING GOP SENATORS

RECALL VACATIONING GOP SENATORS

caely.barrett@gmail.com

Background

We all want to survive Covid-19 and its financial hurricane. But the GOP, after helping the rich in its first Covid bill, is now delaying help for the people who need it most.

With the daily assault from Trump’s deranged mind, it’s easy to be diverted from the millions of people struggling. They include the:

  • 17 million who avoided poverty because of the $600 unemployment insurance (UI) supplement, that has now expired.

  • 29 million Americans who went hungry at least one day in the previous week.

  • 15 million people behind on rent.

House Democrats have passed the HEROES Act and await GOP Senators return from vacation. The HEROES act includes:

  • Restarting the $600 UI supplement,

  • $1200 checks to each taxpayer,

  • Money to support schools, states and local governments,

  • Food stamp enhancement,

  • Eviction moratorium and more.

Senate Majority Leader McConnell “must have” liability protection in any future Covid bill. A liability shield would immunize employers if they failed to provide workplace protections. Among other demands, Republicans want the $600 UI cut and cancel the $1200 checks.

ACTION: THE LIFE WE DESERVE

THE LIFE WE DESERVE

caely.barrett@gmail.com

Background

We all deserve to be safe, healthy, and enjoy equal opportunities. But unless we elect Democrats, we won't live the lives we deserve, and voting safely in a pandemic requires a functioning USPS.

Biden understands the economy hinges on containing COVID-19. He has plans to tackle the pandemic's health and financial impacts and build a green economy with affordable childcare. House Democrats have already passed the Heroes Act and legislation addressing police brutality, voter suppression, environmental degredation, and restoring USPS.

Trump abandoned us to the pandemic, and his GOP enablers remain complicit. They refuse to vote on legislation to help us and our state and local governments, proposing tax breaks for the wealthy instead. Trump's inadequate, quasi-legal EOs don't work without money he denied the states. His crony DeJoy is destroying USPS to suppress our votes, while hurting veterans, rural and underserved communities, small businesses, and postal workers. Though their actions hurt everyone, they disproportionately harm BIPOC families.

We demand a Senate vote on the Heroes and Delivering for America Acts. We continue to work to elect federal, state, and local Democratic candidates. Together, we work to create safe and healthy communities with equal opportunity for us all.
