AMERICA MUST HAVE A FAIR IMPEACHMENT TRIAL

ACTION ONE: CALL YOUR SENATORS

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WYDEN AND MERKLEY:

America is not a dictatorship. Yet. We need a fair trial, and that means with witnesses called and evidence subpoenaed. Keep fighting!

SAMPLE SCRIPTS FOR REPRESENTATIVES:

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because…
All Representatives but Walden: We are on the brink of either a sham trial or a vindication of the Constitution. Thank you for doing your part to impeach the President. Keep standing up for a fair trial with witnesses called and evidence collected.
Walden: We are on the brink of either a sham trial or a vindication of the Constitution in the Senate. We must have a fair trial with witnesses called and evidence collected – for ourselves, and for the world.

ACTION THREE: WIN IN 2020

BACKGROUND:

“[Trump] will not be acquitted. You cannot be acquitted if you don’t have a trial. And you can’t have a trial if you don’t have witnesses and documentation.”
                                                                        — Nancy Pelosi
The Senate convenes at 1 p.m. Eastern time for four hours of debate on whether to have witnesses. We are on track for a tie vote, which Chief Justice Roberts is unlikely to break.
This is a critical moment. Make the Senate vote in the face of a huge public outcry. Make call volumes so high it it is clear they are betraying the country and our Constitution. Keep calling. #RightMatters. No matter what the GOP does.
Tell our Senators: America is not a dictatorship. Yet. We need a fair trial, and that means with witnesses called and evidence subpoenaed.

ACTION: TRUMP’S ASSAULT ON OUR MOST VULNERABLE CITIZENS CONTINUES

TRUMP’S ASSAULT ON OUR MOST VULNERABLE CITIZENS CONTINUES

ACTION ONE: CALL YOUR SENATORS

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WYDEN AND MERKLEY:

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because…
I am calling to ask that while the Senator speaks out for a fair impeachment trial, one that includes witnesses and documents, that he also continue to fight against this administration’s attacks on our social safety net.  Proposed cuts and changes to Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security and Social Security Disability Insurance designed to reduce or deny benefits are a danger to our most vulnerable neighbors and must be stopped.

ACTION TWO: CALL YOUR HOUSE REP

Not sure who your U.S. Representative is? Find out here.

SAMPLE SCRIPTS FOR REPRESENTATIVES:

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because…
For All Representatives except Walden:
I am calling to ask that while the Representative speaks out for a fair impeachment trial in the Senate, one that includes witnesses and documents, that he/she also fight against this administration’s attacks on our social safety net.  Cuts and changes to Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security and Social Security Disability Insurance designed to reduce or deny benefits are a danger to our most vulnerable neighbors and must be stopped.
For Walden:
I am disappointed that my Representative continues to put party above country and voted against impeachment.  It is time for him to support a fair impeachment trial in the Senate, one that includes witnesses and documents.  It is also time for him to finally put the health and well-being of his constituents first.  Cuts and changes to Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security and Social Security Disability Insurance designed to reduce or deny benefits are a danger to our most vulnerable neighbors and must be stopped.

BACKGROUND:

(Background — Throwback Thursdays actions attempt to shift the focus from the Trump outrage of the moment and remind us that the brutality imposed by his policies is ongoing daily.)
Last week, Donald Trump nestled comfortably among billionaires and corporate heads in Davos. Switzerland.  From there he stated that he would be open to making cuts to Social Security and Medicare, earned benefits that are vital to millions of elderly and disabled Americans.
It’s no surprise. Attempting to gut programs that serve the most vulnerable among us has been one of the cornerstones of this administration.
Our social safety net has been in danger from the moment Trump took office focused on dismantling the Affordable Care Act.  There have been endless attacks on life-sustaining programs like Medicaid and food assistance.  Newly proposed rule changes to Social Security Disability Insurance would make maintaining eligibility more difficult for older workers and people suffering from mental health conditions.
The GOP has always wanted to cut Social Security and Medicare or privatize them for profit.  Another term for Trump would open the door.  Call on your MOC’s to protect our most vulnerable neighbors now.  Get involved to protect all of us in the future.
