I want to ask Senator to call for Stephen Miller’s immediate resignation and to support House committee subpoenas of Miller. I also ask that he work to pass laws to stop DHS’s illegal and cruel policies, especially the REUNITE Act and Families Not Facilities Act, among others now under consideration.  Thank you.”

WALDEN: “I believe that Trump’s behavior is becoming increasingly lawless, especially concerning immigrants. Our democracy is at stake. I ask that Rep [Name] call for Stephen Miller’s immediate resignation and to support House committee subpoenas of Miller. I also ask that he/she work to pass laws to stop DHS’s illegal and cruel policies, especially the REUNITE Act and Families Not Facilities Act, among others now under consideration.  Thank you.”

BACKGROUND:

Trump has weaponized DHS immigration enforcement, purging any officials sensitive to legal guardrails. After installing Stephen Miller as its shadow head, Trump is planning more extreme, more violent, more illegal treatment of immigrants. This past week:
  • He declared that he has the “absolute right” to illegally release immigrants from the southern border to sanctuary cities just to punish Democrats.
  • He told border agents to block asylum seekers and promised to pardon the new Acting Secretary of DHS, Kevin McAleenan, should he face jail for denying US entry to immigrants.
  • He wants the military to – illegally — run camps for detainees, and fantasized about soldiers “roughing up” immigrants at the border.
  • He is considering a Sophie’s choice-style policy for immigrant parents: stay with their children in indefinite detention, or send their children to another camp in hopes that relatives could take custody.
Congress must protect the rule of law and human decency. We ask Congress to immediately call for Stephen Miller’s resignation, and then clamp down on Trump’s DHS by passing immigrant protections, particularly the REUNITE Act and the Families Not Facilities Act.
