BACKGROUND:
Dear Member of Congress,
If the administration has kept its promise (never a sure thing), the redacted Mueller report will be delivered today. It likely adds more evidence to Trump’s monumental lawlessness, cruelty, and racism. And, if the past is any guide, it will change nothing.
Business as usual must stop today. If the lone protest of a 15-year-old autistic girl, in Sweden no less, can ignite a global to movement to save the Earth, what‘s stopping you from stepping up to the challenge of saving our Democracy.
Sure, it’s tough being constrained by facts and civility. But don’t practice Trump’s dog whistle tribalism. Inflaming tribal impulses can be effective but it leaves the country poisoned.
So, don’t demonize whole groups, stress the essential value of community, and offer a positive vision.
We ask you to:
- Subpoena everything.
- Demonstrate that the rule of law applies to everyone.
- Go to the border and child prisons.
- Stand shoulder to shoulder with Rep. Omar.
- Join protests at places named Trump.
- Call for and lead a general strike.
- Practice civil disobedience and go to jail if necessary.
Remember, “There comes a time when silence is betrayal.” We need bold leaders, now.
