DON’T HURT CHILDREN

ACTION ONE: GO TO INDIVISIBLE TUESDAY

Join Indivisible Hillsboro at #IndivisibleTuesday today, Tuesday, April 9 to talk to Congresswoman Bonamici’s staff. Meet in the courtyard on the south side of the Beaverton Central Max Station at 11:30AM at 12725 SW Millikan Way, Beaverton. We will ask Representative Bonamici to protect the children under attack by the Trump administration by:
  • Asking Betsy DeVos, when she is in front of the Representative’s committee on Wednesday April 10th, about this administration draining resources from education
  • getting the Keep Families Together Act and the REUNITE Act passed
  • Insisting Kirstjen Nielsen and Stephen Miller testify before Congress

BACKGROUND:

Don’t hurt children. How hard can it be for the President to follow this primal instinct? Yet this doesn’t stop Trump or his Cabinet for a moment.
  • On climate change. As Trump ignores this, children are striking because they understand they are inheriting a desperate, hopeless future.
  • On health care, the number of children without health insurance rose for the first time in a decade, to 3.9 million. Reasons are attributed to Trump cutting funds for Obamacare navigators and uncertainty about Trump’s funding of CHIP.
  • On education: While Trump’s Education Department now allows funding religious schools, his budget cuts $7.1 billion from federal education funding.
  • On immigration, the Trump administration has confessed it will take years to reunite children taken from their migrating parents at the US border. Meanwhile, thousands languish in cages where they are threatened, abused and even allowed to die without medical care.
The depth of Trump’s cruelty is breathtaking. While his tax scam gave $1.5 trillion to the rich and corporations, Trump has left millions of children in poverty, abandoned them in overcrowded/underfunded classrooms, put them in cages, and threatening an end to food stamps.
We must speak up for children.
