BACKGROUND:
Trump ignores the law of the land and the will of the people. On the one hand Trump commits impeachable offenses; and on the other hand he and his GOP work to take away our healthcare.
Trump recently told NRA convention-goers, “We got the individual mandate, the absolute worst part of Obamacare, eliminated. Now we’re going for the rest.”
He most recently attacked the ACA on two fronts: seeking a new health care bill from the Republican-held Senate (not successful); and litigating against the ACA in court.
The Justice Department has become an advocate for declaring the entire ACA unconstitutional. Under orders from the White House, it joined a lawsuit that will likely reach the Supreme Court. The decision is disturbing and possibly illegal. The Justice Department is supposed to defend the law of the land, not seek to overturn it.
The House of Representatives is now in the position of mounting the legal defense of the ACA. It is also calling the White House to account.
We need to support Congress and to keep them focused. Tell your MoCs that Congress must hold Trump accountable for impeachable offenses, investigate possibly illegal behavior, AND protect our healthcare.
