ACTION ONE: CALL YOUR SENATORS

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WYDEN AND MERKLEY:

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because…

– take action to stop the Administration from overturning the National Environmental Policy Act
– continue push McConnell to bring the War Powers Resolution to the floor and conduct a fair impeachment trial

ACTION TWO: CALL YOUR HOUSE REPS

Not sure who your U.S. Representative is? Find out here.

SAMPLE SCRIPTS FOR REPRESENTATIVES:

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because…
For Blumenauer, Bonamici, DeFazio, & SchraderI thank the representative for his/her votes to limit Trump’s war powers. I am also concerned about Trump’s damage to our environment. I urge the Representative to
– stop the Administration from overturning the National Environmental Policy Act
– demand Republican leadership bring the War Powers Resolution to the Senate floor
– demand a fair Senate trial, with witnesses and documents

For WaldenI urge the representative to put country over party and do something for his constituents. I ask that he
– stop Trump’s effort to overturn the National Environmental Policy Act
– limit Trump war powers
– demand a fair Senate trial, with witnesses and documents. If Trump is truly innocent, he should have nothing to fear

BACKGROUND:

Remember when Trump withdrew the US from the Paris Climate Treaty and bragged about being a climate denier? When he overturned Obama-era protections to slow climate deterioration? He has protected corporate polluters and has appointed industry executives whose wealth conflicts with environmental protection to head the Environmental Protection Agency and the departments of Interior and Energy.
While we have been focused on a fair impeachment trial and the crisis Trump precipitated with Iran, Trump overturned the 50-year-old National Environmental Policy Act by exempting infrastructure projects from environmental review, requiring a project approval time that precludes a thorough environmental assessment, and eliminating consideration of cumulative effects on the environment.
Department of Defense administrators have concluded that environmental catastrophe is the greatest threat to national security. A bipartisan group of Representatives urged Trump to reinstate climate change as a national security threat in the 2018 National Defense Authorization Act. Yet Trump continues to disparage national security assessments, deny the catastrophic impact of human behavior on the environment, and ignore the impact of environmental deregulation on public health and safety.
Democrats continue to propose new environmental protection legislation, while Trump’s Republicans continue to ignore and obstruct environmental protections. Let’s call our MoCs today!
