BACKGROUND:
Throughout Trump’s Impeachment trial, damning new evidence has emerged almost daily. On Sunday, a blockbuster report detailed former National Security Adviser John Bolton’s firsthand knowledge of Trump’s pivotal role in the Ukraine affair.
Bolton’s account bolsters the impeachment case that Trump withheld military aid to Ukraine until investigations of Trump political rivals were announced.
Trump’s impeachment trial began as the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office determinedTrump broke the law when he ordered Ukraine aid withheld. Then . . .
- A recording revealed Trump ordering the removal of the American ambassador to the Ukraine who was a staunch anticorruption fighter.
- An email surfaced showing that Trump ordered a hold on military aid 91 minutes after Trump’s “perfect” phone call with Ukraine’s president Zelensky.
- Another email stated the hold was at the “clear direction of POTUS.”
- And when Rudy Giuliani requested a meeting with Zelensky, he wrote he was acting with the “knowledge and consent of President Trump.”
Last week, Trump boasted he’d prevail because “We have all the material,” and witnesses, he withheld from House investigators. Then the Bolton news exploded Trump’s defense in the Senate. Bolton must testify under oath because, now, it’s clear the Constitution itself is on trial.
