Senate Must Say No To Extremist Judges

While the White House is in chaos, McConnell and the Koch Brothers continue to push unqualified, extreme-right judicial nominees toward confirmation.

These nominees are recommended by Federalist Society and are only cursorily vetted by White House counsel Don McGahn. They’re hostile towards voting rights, women’s rights, marriage equality, consumer protection, disability rights, workers’ rights, and environmental protection.

The Senate must play their constitutionally mandated “advise-and-consent” role and reject the fast-tracking of these extreme, unqualified nominees - or the 4 appellate and 28 district court nominees awaiting confirmation will soon have lifetime appointments. Especially egregious are:
--Circuit Court nominees
• Michael Brennan: denies racial bias in the court system; won’t follow judicial precedence; questioned glass ceiling; anti-LGBTQ
• Kurt Engelhardt: disturbing rulings on racial violence/injustice, sexual
harassment, pregnancy discrimination
• Kyle Duncan: fought rights for LGBTQ, women, people of color
--District Court nominees
• Thomas Farr: disenfranchised voters of color, attacked workers’ rights
• Howard Nielson: defended torture; anti-gay/ACA/women’s reproductive rights/gun control
• Matthew Kacsmaryk: extreme opposition to women’s reproductive rights, LGBTQ rights, contraceptive coverage
• Mark Norris: anti-LGBTQ

Their confirmation will move courts towards right-wing extremism—causing harm to Americans now and for years to come. Our senators must oppose these and future extremist nominees.
