The integrity of elections is vital to our democracy.  In 2016 Russian hackers infiltrated elections systems in at least 21 states, 7 of which were compromised.  They also exploited social network platforms to spread lies and manipulate public opinion.

U.S. Intelligence services have left no doubt that Russia will attempt to interfere in the 2018 elections.  What is being done to safeguard our votes?  GOP leadership and this administration have shown little interest in preventing foreign interference.

Rex Tillerson has basically said that if Russia wants to interfere there is really nothing we can do, and the State Department has left $120 million allocated to prevent foreign meddling in our elections unspent. The GOP attempted to defund the Election Assistance Commission - the agency tasked with safeguarding elections -  and Ryan is removing it’s chairman.

The responsibility to act is on our Congressional representatives.

The Election Security Act and The Secure Elections Act would regulate vendors, help states with funding for audits, upgrading technology and providing a paper trail.  The Honest Ads Act is a first step in stopping anonymous electioneering online.

These are bipartisan bills that must come to a vote.  Tell your MOC’s to fight for election security now.
