ACTION: PROTECT OUR ECONOMY

From Indivisible Oregon...

**CALL TO ACTION**

PROTECT OUR ECONOMY
----------------------------------------------------------
#NotOnePenny
#GOPTaxScam
Our economy is under threat from the GOP Tax Scam and the roll back of banking protections.
GOP Tax Scam has resulted in:
• the treasury being drained faster than expected due to lost revenue from the Tax Scam
• corporations devoting more than double their tax revenue to stock buy backs instead of employee benefits
The Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief and Consumer Protection Act (S. 2155) is a significant weakening of the Dodd-Frank Act, which strengthened financial regulations to prevent another 2008-like financial crisis. According to the CBO, S. 2155 will:
• make it more likely that banks will collapse leading to government bail outs
• cost tax payers $671 million over a 10-year period.
Congress must protect our economy. They can do this by
• fixing the tax bill. The ultimate fix is a new Congress, but we have a chance when GOP leadership plan to fix drafting mistakes in the Tax Scam with the next spending bill. This needs Democratic votes to pass. Our MoCs must ask for tax fixes that are revenue positive.
• vote no on S. 2155
America needs an economy that works for everyone. Tell Congress to protect our economy.

**ACTION 1: CALL OUR SENATORS and YOUR REPRESENTATIVE**
(Leave a message if you can't get through.)
SAMPLE SCRIPT: for Merkley and Wyden
"My name is [--] and I'm a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am worried about our economy and would like to ask the Senator to do two things: 1) make sure that any technical fixes to the error-ridden tax law don't increase the debt and are at least revenue neutral, if not revenue positive and 2) vote no on S. 2155 to stop the roll back of banking protections. Thank you."
SAMPLE SCRIPT for Reps:
"My name is [--] and I'm a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because I want [Name] to fight for a fair tax code. Any technical fixes to the error-ridden tax law cannot further increase the deficit. They must be at least revenue neutral, if not revenue positive. Thank you."

ACTION 2: GET YOUR MID TERM GAME ON
It has become clear that we need a different Congress to protect our economy and to write a fair tax plan. Make sure you and everyone you know is registered to vote. Keep an eye on Indivisible Oregon's website (http://www.indivisibleOR.org/) for our soon-to-be-published plans for midterms. In the meantime, check out our list of great election resources.
