PROTECT HEALTHCARE FROM SABOTAGE

Attempts to undermine the programs that give access to healthcare for lower income Americans continues unabated.
Unable to repeal the ACA outright and not satisfied with repealing the individual mandate, Trump’s and GOP Senators’ latest tactic is to pull young, healthy people out of the risk pool by promoting short-term health insurance policies, exempt from ACA compliance. They are cheap because they offer limited protection. They will further destabilize the market and drive up premiums for ACA compliant policies.
Trump’s budget slashes Medicare funding by over a trillion dollars. His administration has encouraged states to request waivers allowing them to require “able-bodied” Medicaid recipients to work. This creates an undue bureaucratic burden on recipients, most of whom already work.
Republicans have attached riders to the funding bill that would prevent the use of Medicaid or any other Federal funds for clients of Planned Parenthood. The GOP claims that their drive to defund Planned Parenthood comes from a profound respect for life. Yet they would deny women access to the vital services that Planned Parenthood provides. These include lifesaving health screenings and treatment often unavailable elsewhere in rural and low-income areas.
We must raise our voices to protect healthcare.

Please tell the Senator/Representative to do all he/she can to protect Medicaid and Planned Parenthood and to prevent the promotion of junk health insurance. Thank you.”
SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WALDEN:
“My name is [--] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because health care for the most vulnerable Oregonians is at risk. I would like to remind Representative Walden how much his district benefits from the ACA, Medicare and Planned Parenthood. Please ask him to consider his constituents and refuse to continue supporting proposals that will damage these vital programs. Thank you.”
