Last week, congressional Republicans tried one more time to ram their disastrous TrumpCare bill through the House. Once again they failed. But they’re not done trying—and this week, they’re getting dangerously close.
We’re hearing intel that Republican leaders are pulling out all the stops to round up the votes they need to pass TrumpCare and rip health care away from 24 million people. They know that they need to repeal the ACA so that they can fund the rest of the Trump agenda.
By now, they should have learned their lesson: Americans do not want this bill. It’s time to shut TrumpCare down for good.
We need to make this week count: no matter who your Member of Congress (MoC) is, keep calling and visiting their office and make sure they know that you’ll be holding them accountable—that you expect them to protect Americans’ health care, and to say no to the entire Trump agenda.
This Week’s Indivisible Priority
Defend the ACA. Donald Trump and Paul Ryan are just a few votes short of what they need to pass TrumpCare in the House. The House Rules Committee is meeting today, and they’ve been hard at work all weekend trying to round up their votes. They’re very close, but they don’t have them yet. We know how hard you’ve been working too, and it’s having an enormous impact. Keep up your phone calls and office visits: it’s time to let your MoCs know that we won’t let up until we know that TrumpCare is dead for good. Every day this week, tell your MoC that you don’t want Congress wasting any more time on TrumpCare: How To Save the Affordable Care Act (Again).
Other Congressional Updates
Funding the Government. After passing a week-long continuing resolution (CR), Congress has now reached a tentative agreement that will fund the government through September. But just because they’ve reached a deal doesn’t mean this fight is over. The devil is in the details, and we just don’t have many of those details yet. As you call and visit your local congressional office, tell your MoC that you don’t want any bad policy riders included in the spending bill, like Trump’s request for money to build a border wall and create his mass deportation force.
Trump’s Tax Plan. Last Wednesday, Trump announced a tax plan. It’s short on details but long on giveaways for the rich (including Trump himself). Congress does not have to follow Trump’s lead on this, and with your pressure they won’t—use our updated tax reform explainer to ground Trump’s tax giveaway plan before it can take off.
Remember the 2008 financial crisis? Trump’s Wall Street friends are gearing up for round 2! The Financial CHOICE Act (H.R. 10) would make it easier for big banks and predatory lenders to gamble with our money and rip people off, and it would increase the likelihood of another financial crisis. The CHOICE Act is scheduled for a markup tomorrow, May 2. Call your House Representative and tell them to put constituents’ interests before banks’ by voting NO. Here’s a call script to get started.
Rise Up for Immigrant Rights
Today, May 1, immigrants and allies across the nation are taking part in Rise Up, a day of action against Trump’s vicious attacks on immigrants, from the Muslim ban to escalating raids and deportations, to the border wall plan. Here are some resources for standing indivisible with immigrant families in your community:
Immigrant Ally Toolkit: An Indivisible toolkit developed in partnership with the Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM), Local Progress, National Immigration Law Center, Reform Immigration for America, and United We Dream. Check it out for information on how you can support and stand in solidarity with immigrants on May 1 and beyond.

Q&A Recording: If you missed Indivisible and National Immigration Law Center’s joint Facebook Live Q&A on Thursday, you can catch up now. We’ve got answers to questions about understanding the Trump administration’s immigration policies, how to get involved in Rise Up actions, and what else you can do locally to support immigrant rights.
Here’s where we ask you for money
We’re helping you fight back. Whether it’s TrumpCare, the budget, the Muslim and refugee bans, or whatever new assault on American democracy Trump launches next—we’re here to help the local Indivisible leadership on the ground that’s fighting to win. That’s what we do. In the first 100 days, we’ve produced more than 60 resources, from explainers to toolkits to scripts, to support the work of more than 6,000 groups around the country. We’re not stopping, because you’re not stopping.
If you find these emails and our resources helpful, you can help us out with a recurring donation of a few bucks each month. This helps us plan, and it helps us continue to build the Indivisible movement. Thanks for considering—you’re the best.
But remember, it’s your power as constituents that is the driving force behind every victory over the Trump agenda. As long as we stand indivisible, we can continue to stop him. The resistance is strong. The movement is growing. And together, we will win.
In solidarity,
The Indivisible Team
P.S. We want to amplify your group’s voice! Keep sharing your pictures, videos, and stories with us at stories@indivisibleguide.com so we can show the world the momentum behind the Indivisible movement.
