STOP OFFSHORE DRILLING: PROTECT OUR COASTAL COMMUNITIES
——————————————————————————————
Stay tuned for a phone action on Trump, Russia, and Comey tomorrow! Focus today on an important environmental issue…
Trump’s unleashed his assault on the environment and our coastal communities on April 28 when he issued an Executive Order to open the door to offshore drilling on both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts. This was the first time the President’s powers have been used to remove areas from protection. http://wapo.st/2qpl87P .
----An oil spill could have devastating consequences to our environment, marine sanctuaries, marine monuments and our coastal economy.
--Senator Wyden put it this way: “Countless Oregonians depend on our coast to sustain jobs in our state’s fishing, shipping, and tourism industries, and we can't afford to put the state’s economy at risk just to pad the profits of big oil”  http://bit.ly/2i1QSLC .
--Sens. Wyden and Merkley have introduced a bill--The West Coast Ocean Protection Act-- to put permanent safeguards in place for the Pacific Coast (S.31 http://bit.ly/2qpxcp6 ); Rep’s DeFazio and Blumenauer have co-sponsored similar House legislation (HR 169 http://bit.ly/2roj3Gf). There are also bills to protect the Atlantic coast and the Artic. (HR 2272 http://bit.ly/2qq4yon; S.999,  http://bit.ly/2qusapD; and S.991 http://bit.ly/2pIB8m8.)
