Action: Call For Impeachment Hearings. Then Pass The Stop Cruelty To Migrant Children Act

CALL FOR IMPEACHMENT HEARINGS.  THEN PASS THE STOP CRUELTY TO MIGRANT CHILDREN ACT

ACTION ONE: GO TO #INDIVISIBLETUESDAY

Join us for #INDIVISIBLETUESDAY TODAY, Tuesday July 16 at 11:30 AM in the courtyard of Sen. Merkley’s office at 121 SW Salmon Street, Portland, OR 97204.  We will speak to Senator Merkley’s staff and
  • thank Sen. Merkley for introducing the Stop Cruelty to Migrant Children Act,
  • point out the limits of asking a brutally racist President to follow the law when he is repeatedly flouting the law – in immigration and so many other domains.
  • urge Sen. Merkley call for an impeachment inquiry.

ACTION TWO: CALL YOUR SENATORS

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WYDEN AND MERKLEY:

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because…
I want to thank the Senator for co-sponsoring the Stop Cruelty to Migrant Children Act but also ask him to call for an impeachment inquiry. Passing the Stop Cruelty bill would be unnecessary if Trump followed the rule of law. But he does not. His racist lawlessness towards non-white migrants joins a string of other high crimes and misdemeanors. Therefore, I urgently request that the Senator call for an impeachment inquiry immediately. Thank you.

ACTION THREE: CALL YOUR HOUSE REPS

Not sure who your U.S. Representative is? Find out here.

SAMPLE SCRIPTS FOR REPRESENTATIVES:

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because…
Representatives Blumenauer and Bonamici: I want to ask [Name] to co-sponsor the House version of the Stop Cruelty and also ask him/her to call again for an impeachment inquiry. Passing the Stop Cruelty bill would be unnecessary if Trump followed the rule of law. But he does not. His racist lawlessness toward non-white migrants violates existing laws, and joins a string of other high crimes and misdemeanors. Therefore, I urgently request that Rep. [Name] call again for an impeachment inquiry immediately. Thank you.
Representatives DeFazio, Schrader, and Walden: I am calling to ask [Name] to co-sponsor the House version of the Stop Cruelty to Migrant Children Act and to call for an impeachment inquiry. Thank you.

BACKGROUND:

Children are in cages. Men and women are sardined in their own stench. Border Patrol confiscates migrants’ possessions – just like Nazis did at their concentration camps.  Senior CBP managers belong to a racist Facebook site and still hold their jobs.
The government is violating detention limits; stonewalling legal representation for children; forcing migrants to go hungry and sleepless; turning away donations; denying medical care.
The President defended the agency, then finally said what we suspected:  Only white people need apply.
When is enough enough? Trump’s high crimes and misdemeanors are far beyond the Mueller report’s findings. We are deep into the territory of lawlessness with a white nationalist at the helm.
Sen. Merkley said, “We need a strong response to stop the cruelty at the border.”
Merkley’s Stop Cruelty to Migrant Children Act is a good thing. Republicans will look bad for stonewalling it. And establishing guardrails on CBP is a good idea — if this Administration followed the rule of law. But it doesn’t.
The stronger response to this lawlessness, corruption and racist brutality is to convene impeachment hearings. We ask our entire delegation to call for impeachment hearings. Now.
