TO BE VOTERS WE NEED ELECTION SECURITY

ACTION ONE: CALL YOUR SENATORS

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WYDEN AND MERKLEY:

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because…
No matter our zip code, we all deserve to be voters.  But the GOP has systematically suppressed the vote – especially voters of color – with gerrymandering, voter suppression, and voter manipulation. I ask the Senator to insert election reform and election security measures into must pass budget bills.  We are running out of time.

ACTION TWO: CALL YOUR HOUSE REPS

Not sure who your U.S. Representative is? Find out here.

SAMPLE SCRIPTS FOR REPRESENTATIVES:

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because…
No matter our zip code, we all deserve to be voters.  But the GOP has systematically suppressed the vote – especially voters of color – with gerrymandering, voter suppression, and voter manipulation. I ask the Representative to insert election reform and election security measures into must pass budget bills.  We are running out of time.

BACKGROUND:

No matter our zip code, we all deserve to be voters.  But the GOP has systematically suppressed the vote – especially voters of color – with gerrymandering, voter suppression, and voter manipulation. The GOP does this because they know their ideas do not win on their own.
We deserve a country where we all have
  • Food, housing, and medical care
  • The ability to retire with dignity
  • Time to care for our families
  • The right to earn a living
  • Clear air and water
  • Education that allows kids to thrive
  • And so much more
To have all of this we must vote for candidates that will make this happen.  And we can only do that by being voters – free from voter suppression.
The Democratic-led House passed comprehensive election reforms in 2019. The Senate must do the same.  But work in the Senate is at a stand still and the only legislation getting passed now are budget bills.
Call your Members of Congress today and insist they insert election reform and election security measures into must pass budget bills.  We are running out of time.
