PROTECT OUR SAFETY NET

#GOPTaxScam

“When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time” – Maya Angelou

Congressional Republicans have shown America who they are.  They value corporate donors over children.  They take healthcare away instead of expanding access.  They place party over country.

In 2017 Congressional Republicans
--cut corporate taxes by 14 percentage points while letting permanent funding lapse for 9 million children whose lives depend on CHIP
--gave corporations permanent tax cuts when thousands in Puerto Rico have no power
-- repealed the ACA’s individual mandate risking 13 million Americans’ healthcare
-- blindly confirmed Trump’s Cabinet – many of whom are dismantling the very institutions they are sworn to uphold

And this is just the beginning.  Paul Ryan has already stated in 2018 he plans to reduce entitlements – which include Medicare, Medicaid, and social security - and impose work requirements for food stamps. Senator Lindsay Graham and House Republicans insist ACA repeal is on the 2018 agenda.

In 2017, Oregon’s Democratic MoCs worked to reject the GOP agenda.  In 2018 they must, with their colleagues, form a protective fire wall around our safety net.  Americans’ lives and faith in their government depend on it.

**ACTION 1: CALL OUR SENATORS and YOUR REP **
(Leave a message if you can’t get through.)

SAMPLE SCRIPT: for everyone but Walden
“My name is [--] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I want to thank the Senator/Rep for doing everything he/she could to stop the GOP tax bill. I am very concerned Republicans will slash our safety net next – including Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security.  We cannot allow this to happen. I ask the Senator/Rep do all he/she can to save these social programs that help all Americans. Thank you.”

SAMPLE SCRIPT for Walden:
“My name is [--] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am very disappointed with much of the Representative’s legislative positions in 2017.  He was a chief architect of the ACA repeal and voted yes on the tax bill. I am very concerned that he and his Republican colleagues will come after our safety net.  I ask the Representative to think of his constituents (not his donors) and do all he can to save these social programs that help all Americans.“
