PROTECT AMERICA’S COASTS————————————————————————————
#ProtectOurCoasts
Trump is seeking to overturn decades of bi-partisan protection of our coastlines. An Interior Department proposal would allow drilling along the Pacific, Atlantic, and Arctic coasts and eastern Gulf.
Additionally, his administration seeks to:
- Rescind safety regulations put in place after America’s worst oil spill, the Deepwater Horizon disaster
- Overturn fracking rules on federal and tribal landsAnd, the GOP Tax Scam now permits drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
Coastal states are rising up against these threats to their communities – seismic airgun blasting, coastal industrialization endangering wildlife and tourism, inevitable oil spills. The opposition is bi-partisan. Republican Governor Scott and Senator Rubio oppose drilling off Florida. Governor Kate Brown and Democratic governors of other coastal states pledge to fight the proposal.
Thousands of small businesses – restaurants, hotels, commercial fishing operations -- oppose drilling, according to Frank Knapp, president of the Business Alliance for Protecting the Atlantic Coast. “It’s not consistent with our vibrant tourism, fishing and recreation. Their concern is their livelihood, the local economies. We all saw what happened to the Gulf Coast with Deepwater Horizon.”
Tell Congress our fragile coastal waters are not for sale. Congress must protect our coasts!
