ACTION TWO: CALL YOUR SENATORS
SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WYDEN AND MERKLEY:
My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].
Thank you for everything you are doing to protect our health and our vote. As I’m sure you agree, we shouldn’t have to choose between them. I am calling to urge you to refuse unanimous consent for another spending package that doesn’t include full funding for vote-by-mail and the post office and guaranteed legislative oversight of all fund appropriated by Congress. Without these 3 things, we can’t ensure the package will won’t be used to reward supporters of the Trump GOP while failing to provide for the rest of us and to suppress our vote.

SAMPLE SCRIPTS FOR REPRESENTATIVES:

For Blumenauer, Bonamici, DeFazio, Schrader:
Thank you for everything you are doing to protect our health and our vote. As I’m sure you agree, we shouldn’t have to choose between them. I am calling to urge you to refuse unanimous consent for another spending package unless it includes fully funding vote-by-mail and the post office and guaranteed legislative oversight of all funds appropriated by Congress. Without these 3 things, we can’t ensure the package will won’t be used to reward supporters of the Trump GOP while failing to provide for the rest of us and to suppress our vote.
For Walden:
I am calling to demand you put your constituents before your party and president and ensure we don’t have to choose between our health and our right to vote. Do not vote for another spending package that doesn’t include fully funding vote-by-mail and the post office and guaranteed legislative oversight of all funds appropriated by Congress. Without these 3 things, we can’t ensure the package will be used to provide for our needs as your constituents.

BACKGROUND:
We are all stronger when everyone has secure access to safe and affordable housing, food, and health care. We are all stronger when everyone can vote. Our elected officials’ job is to ensure these rights and protect the postal service that makes them possible. COVID-19 leaves us all more dependent on government to obtain and distribute medical and financial resources fairly. Yet we entered this crisis with huge segments of the population disadvantaged by the system’s flaws, voter suppression, a severely underfunded postal service, and a demonstrably corrupt Administration.
Trump and his GOP care only about themselves, and Roberts’ SCOTUS supports them. They fear our vote will end their power. They oppose any spending that doesn’t benefit them and their donors and refuse to negotiate. They misuse money appropriated by Congress to reward their supporters and punish opponents and then hide their corruption by refusing to comply with legislative oversight and by firing Inspector Generals.
Full funding for vote-by-mail and the USPS and guaranteed legislative oversight are our only avenues to change. Democrats must oppose any funding package that doesn’t include these three must-haves, even if that means withholding unanimous consent.
