THE NEXT RELIEF BILL MUST BENEFIT PEOPLE NOT FURTHER ENRICH CORPORATIONS

ACTION ONE: CALL YOUR SENATORS

Meaningful policy changes must be included in the next stimulus bill to protect people, not funnel money to corporations.  I am asking the Senator to support a senate version of the Paycheck Guarantee Act introduced by Rep. Pramila Jayapal in the House on Friday.   I am also asking him/her to ensure that any new relief package includes a guarantee of oversight by the legislative branch of all stimulus funding.

BACKGROUND:

The last COVID-19 stimulus bill gave some relief to workers but gifted $500 billion of taxpayer money to large corporations.  Trump promised to block any Congressional oversight of its dispersal. He replaced the Inspector General responsible for oversight with one of his loyal staff lawyers.
American workers have been left to deal with overwhelmed state unemployment systems and the probability of continued joblessness once businesses begin to reopen.
We don’t need more of our resources diverted to corporations by an administration with no accountability.
Corporations are not people.  And people need money in their hands now, and jobs in the future.
Meaningful policy changes included in the next stimulus bill can make that possible. In many countries in Europe governments are reimbursing businesses that keep their workers on the payroll while they are closed due to the pandemic.  Workers and small businesses benefit. There has been similar legislation introduced in the House. It needs to be supported.
We can work together and pull through this.  Tell your MOC’s that the next relief package cannot continue to simply funnel money to corporations.  Instead it must include meaningful policy change and must guarantee oversight by the legislative branch of all stimulus funding.
