BACKGROUND:
We need to be as kind and brave as the people wearing hospital scrubs and masks. They tell us they are afraid but they show us that compassion for each other can overcome fear.
Unfortunately, at this moment, America lacks a president who is as decent as its people. Lately, our President has:
- supported heavily armed extremists demanding to “liberate” their states from imposed isolation.
- encouraged insurrection by these same thugs with lies that Governors want to confiscate their guns.
- lied that Muslim mosques are open while Christian churches are closed.
This is typical Trump – inflame the mob and divide his opponents.
Fortunately, the congregating Tea Party terrorists are having their way blocked, literally, by unarmed men and women in hospital scrubs.
Isolation should end when scientists decide it’s safe: when rapid testing is available nationwide; when hospitals are not overflowing; when contact tracing can be started; when personal protectionequipment is readily available.
Opening earlier, as Georgia is now planning, will surely cause another spike in cases.
America is not composed of 328 million rugged individualists. The coronavirus has taught us that we are inextricably bound to one another. Self-isolation is our testimony that we can protect each other.
