UNDOCUMENTED WORKERS ARE AMERICAN WORKERS.

ACTION ONE: CALL YOUR SENATORS

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WYDEN AND MERKLEY:

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because…
While I appreciate your advocacy for working people in the 2 trillion pandemic aid package, it nothing for undocumented workers. I ask you to make sure that “Phase 4” relief covers allworkers, regardless of citizenship. Please fight for all workers to have at least 40 hours of sick leave, safe work conditions and the same unemployment benefits as other workers

ACTION TWO: CALL YOUR HOUSE REPS

Not sure who your U.S. Representative is? Find out here.

SAMPLE SCRIPTS FOR REPRESENTATIVES:

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because…
Trump is illegally expelling and refusing entrance to asylum seekers and lone children at the border.  The House must use its powers of the purse and oversight to make Trump follow the law and stop his cruelty.
Also, undocumented workers must be included in a Phase 4 COVID-19 relief bill. Please fight for all workers to have at least 40 hours of sick leave, safe work conditions and the sameunemployment as other workers.

ACTION THREE: WRITE TO VOTERS FROM YOUR HOME

Organizing for the 2020 Election is going VIRTUAL!
Stay tuned — more activities to come!

BACKGROUND:

COVID-19 highlights how much we need each other – no matter what we look like or how much money is in our wallet.  But our immigrant neighbors working to get our food and provide our healthcare are suffering from Trump’s policies.
At the border:
Trump is using COVID-19 as an excuse to turn away asylum seekers and lone children. This is illegal and unnecessary. We can screen for COVID-19 and admit people fleeing danger.
The House must use its powers of the purse and oversight to makeTrump follow the law and stop his cruelty.
Inside the country:
Ironically, the Administration now says undocumented food supply workers are in “critical infrastructure industries,” and must keep working during the pandemic.
Businesses are handing out letters to protect workers from deportation even while they provide no health insurance or much protection from the virus
The $2 trillion pandemic aid package did nothing for undocumented workers. “Phase 4” relief must cover all workersregardless ofcitizenship. All workers must have at least 40 hours of sick leave, safe work conditions and the right to unemployment when they lose work.
Trump’s racism towards immigrants must go. We are all being hurt by it.
