BACKGROUND:
Yesterday a group of about 30 Republicans took over the House SCIF (Sensitive Comparted Information Facility) and obstructed impeachment testimony from being taken. The Republican who stormed SCIF claimed to be protesting the lack of access to information. Yet among them were 12 who are on the committees conducting impeachment investigations – and can ask questions of witnesses and have access to all documents.
Once again, the members of Trump’s GOP tore up oaths, broke the rules, and endangered our national security:
- SCIF is specifically designed to prevent electronic eavesdropping and protect our national security. These GOP violated protocols that clearly prohibit cameras and phones, took photos, and tweeted from the inside SCIF.
- Taking unauthorized devices into SCIF is very dangerous because spy technology has become so sophisticated that hostile actors can penetrate walls and activate someone’s cell phone without the owner’s knowledge.
- Rules about the SCIF are so strict, that one woman reported having difficulty bringing in her breast pump equipment.
Democrats: ignoring this breach of our national security is NOT taking the high road. This is serious. We need to see discipline. Every parent knows: actions have consequences.
