BACKGROUND:
Congress can refuse to abet Trump’s militarization of our border and his cynical agenda which seeks to limit immigration by terrorizing refugees.
As federal budget negotiations for 2020 continue, Congress can reassert their Constitutional authority by refusing to fund the human rights abuses of DHS.
Trump wants an increase in ICE and CBP funding. More money for raids, family separation and inhumane for-profit immigration prisons.
Congress must reduce funding for ICE and CBP to 2016 levels.
Trump has raided disaster relief and other vital services for money to funnel to support his xenophobic agenda. He’ll continue to do so as long as he can find a loophole.
Congress must ensure the budget includes language prohibiting the transfer of funds from other agencies to ICE and CBP. There must be no slush fund of “discretionary” money.
And ultimately, to stop Trump’s criminal and racist agenda he must be impeached.
