THE HOUSE MUST OPEN AN IMPEACHMENT INQUIRY NOW

ACTION THREE: GO TO #INDIVISIBLETUESDAY

Join us at #IndivisibleTuesday today, Tuesday, May 7th at 11:30AM in the courtyard of Senator Wyden’s and Representative Blumenauer’s office: 911 E 11th Ave.
We will thank Representative Blumenauer for co-sponsoring H.Res.257 (Rep. Tlaib’s resolution for an impeachment inquiry) and encourage him to
  1. Ensure that this inquiry covers all Trump’s misconduct.
  2. Use his voice to convince colleagues of the need for an impeachment inquiry and that they should support H.Res.257 and to push House leadership to schedule a vote on the Tlaib resolution.
  3. Educate the public about impeachment’s role in Congressional oversight and explain why an impeachment inquiry is now absolutely necessary.
We will encourage Senator Wyden to:
  1. Use his voice to convince House colleagues of the need to immediately open an impeachment inquiry into all Trump’s misconduct.
  2. Talk to Senate colleagues of both parties about impeachment’s role in Congressional oversight and about all Senators’ duty to put country over party.
  3. Educate the public about impeachment’s role in Congressional oversight and explain why an impeachment inquiry is now absolutely necessary.

BACKGROUND:

It’s been weeks since Congress received substantial evidence of Russia’s sweeping, systematic attack on the 2016 election—which Trump welcomed and encouraged—and of Trump’s obstruction of the subsequent investigation. Focusing only on Mueller’s report ignores Trump’s other massive abuses of power, stonewalling of congressional investigations, and failures of moral leadership—all of which portray a man who puts his interests above public’s, is unable or uninterested in morally leading the country, and repeatedly breaches his obligation to ensure the laws’ faithful execution and the Constitution’s preservation, protection and defense.
We cannot let Trump’s reckless disregard for Constitution, democracy and rule of law go unchallenged. House’s failure to open impeachment inquiry permits Trump to repeatedly falsely claim that, since Mueller found no collusion or obstruction, he cannot be impeached, and it’s causing lasting damage to Congress’ ability to curb executive overreaching.
Six House committees separately investigating aspects of Trump’s misbehavior is unwieldy and unfocused. An impeachment inquiry creates single, dramatically powerful committee to investigate everything—better focusing public attention, improving investigation’s efficiency, and making White House’s continued obstruction significantly more dangerous.
We must demand that our MoCs convince the House to open an impeachment inquiry immediately.
