BACKGROUND:
Trump expects unfailing person loyalty from his minions. This includes Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and Attorney General William Barr. Accordingly, their actions are more like men having sworn an oath to protect Donald Trump rather than the US Constitution.
Congress and the American public has a right and a need to see Trump’s tax returns. They would provide detailed information regarding both criminal malfeasance and how his foreign financial entanglements may compromise national security. When Congress subpoena Trump’s returns, Mnuchin loyally refused.
Congress and the American public has a right and a need to see the full Mueller report. Barr refused to comply with a Congressional subpoena for the unredacted report. He also refused to testify before the House Judiciary Committee.
The executive branch cannot be allowed to refuse subpoenas to protect Trump. The House has a responsibility to protect separation of powers and investigate criminal misconduct. There are tools to do both.
Robert Mueller can provide answers the Administration wants buried. He can also counteract Barr’s blatant misrepresentations of his report. He must be called to testify now.
Contempt of Congress charges against Mnuchin and Barr must be brought to a vote now.
An impeachment inquiry must begin now.
