WE NEED A HEALTHY USPO FOR A HEALTHY SOCIETY

ACTION ONE: CALL YOUR SENATORS

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WYDEN AND MERKLEY:

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because…
I am calling again about saving the US Postal Service because it’s so important. We need the Post Office to vote by mail this fall. But also we need it to deliver stimulus payments and unemployment checks; medical equipment, supplies and everything else to hard-to-reach areas; to stay in touch with loved ones no matter where they live. It must not be allowed to bleed out. Please keep fighting for full funding and put the Post Office on sound financial footing.

ACTION TWO: CALL YOUR HOUSE REPS

Not sure who your U.S. Representative is? Find out here.

SAMPLE SCRIPTS FOR REPRESENTATIVES:

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because…
All Representatives except Walden:
I am calling again about saving the US Postal Service because it’s so important. We need the Post Office to vote by mail this fall. But also we need it to deliver stimulus payments and unemployment checks; medical equipment, supplies and everything else to hard-to-reach areas; to stay in touch with loved ones no matter where they live. It must not be allowed to bleed out. Please keep fighting full funding and put the Post Office on sound financial footing.
 Walden:
You of all Representatives know that the US Post Office is irreplaceable. We cannot afford to let it bleed out, or to be privatized.  Our health system showed us what happens when a service becomes profit-driven.  Please stand up for your constituents. Work with Democrats for full funding and put the Post Office on sound financial footing.

BACKGROUND:

Losing the US Post Service would be catastrophic to democracy. Hard-to-reach areas will lose service. Service everywhere will become more expensive. The Haves and the Have Nots will be separated further. A few years down the road, our postal service will look like our internet system and our health care system: available only where there are enough of people to afford high prices.
Most immediately, we need the US Postal Service to:
 Have successful voting by mail.
  • Deliver COV-19 tests, medical equipment, and everything needed in hard to reach places – such as most of Oregon.
  • Deliver stimulus payments and unemployment checks.
  • Distribute the vaccine quickly and everywhere once we have one.
It is unfathomable that the President and his party would endanger the Postal Service during a pandemic. Think about this: the Post Office employs 630,000 people. In. Every. Single. Congressional District.
183 days till the election. Meanwhile, we must keep up a steady steam of heartfelt calls to save the Postal Service.
