BACKGROUND:
USPS, in existence since nation’s founding, connects us to distant family and friends, delivers medications, paychecks, online packages, and communications from our government. With voting by mail becoming necessary due to COVID-19, if USPS, the only functioning part of our government, goes under so does America.
For decades GOP’s erected obstacles to voting through strict voter ID, limiting registration opportunities, purging voter rolls, opposing early voting—which pale in comparison to fear of contracting COVID-19 if we must vote in person. While Trump regularly votes by mail, he refuses to extend that right to others, wrongly believing it favors Dems.
Destroying USPS and the standard of living enjoyed by its 650,000 workers became more likely with installation of Louis DeJoy, a top GOP donor and Trump crony, as postmaster general. Like Sondlin, DeJoy bought his position with $3 million to GOP and Trump and will do his bidding
- No USPS experience
- Turned donations into profitable government contracts
- Fined $1 million+ for sexual harassment
- jury awarded $1.5 million for sexual harassment/retaliation
- Company practices caused pregnancy miscarriages
We cannot allow weaponization of USPS when states are mobilizing vote-by-mail efforts. If Congress fails to act, our democracy and the 2020 election are at risk.
