TODAY IS NATIONAL CALL-IN DAY.  TELL CONGRESS TO DEFUND HATE

ACTION ONE: CALL YOUR SENATORS

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WYDEN AND MERKLEY:

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because…
While the Senator works to support impeachment,  I am asking that he make sure that any budget, including a short-term spending agreement, defunds hate.  There must be no increased funding for ICE or CBP, or a border wall, and any funds must depend on humanitarian safeguards for immigrants.  There must be language to stop Trump’s shell game of moving money from other agencies to fund ICE, the wall or any other anti-immigrant actions.  Thank you.

ACTION TWO: CALL YOUR HOUSE REPS

Not sure who your U.S. Representative is? Find out here.

SAMPLE SCRIPTS FOR REPRESENTATIVES:

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because…
FOR ALL BUT WALDEN:  While the Representative works to impeachment hearings, I am asking that he/she makes sure that any budget, including a short-term spending agreement, defunds hate.  There must be no increased funding for ICE or CBP, or a border wall, and any funds must depend on humanitarian safeguards for immigrants.  There must be language to stop Trump’s shell game of moving money from other agencies to fund ICE, the wall or any other anti-immigrant actions.  Thank you.
FOR WALDEN:   I am asking that the Representative find the courage to put humanity and country above party.  To make sure that any budget, including a short-term spending agreement, defunds hate.  There must be no increased funding for ICE or CBP, or a border wall, and any funds must depend on humanitarian safeguards for immigrants.  There must be language to stop Trump’s shell game of moving money from other agencies to fund ICE, the wall or any other anti-immigrant actions.  And to prevent further abuses of power by Trump by supporting impeachment.  Thank you.

BACKGROUND:

There are seven working days left for Congress to get a budget passed in order to keep the government funded and operating.  Trump and his Republican allies must not be allowed to cynically use the need to keep vital government programs operating to grab more money for ICE, CBP and his wall.
The continuing resolution passed in September will expire November 21st.  Whether a final  budget or another short-term funding bill is negotiated, Congress must refuse to fund Trump’s anti-immigration racism.
They must only pass a budget that:
  • Gives Trump not a single penny for his border wall.
  • Cuts funding for ICE and CBP to 2016 levels.
  • Includes language which blocks backdoor funding increases.  DHS must not be allowed to transfer money Congress has approved for other purposes to ICE and CBP.  Trump believes he can just take any money that he wants.
  • Adopts strong guardrails to prevent abuses by ICE and CBP and institutes strict standards for detention facilities.  Otherwise, our representatives in Congress will be complicit in the continuing inhumane treatment of immigrants in our country.
Join National Call-in Day today.  Tell your MOCs –  It’s time to stand up to the abuses of this administration.
