BACKGROUND:
This week we saw the best and worst Congress has to offer.
The House Intelligence Committee, led by Representative Adam Schiff, held public impeachment hearings that heard testimony, from Ambassador Bill Taylor and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State George Kent, that clearly outlined Trump’s impeachable conduct of bribery and extortion. The Democratic-led House of Representatives did and will keep doing their job to save our democracy with more impeachment hearings today and next week.
Yesterday, as a mass shooting took the lives of children, Senator Chris Murphy’s call to act on the background check bill passed by the Democratic-led House in February was blocked by Republican Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith. Mitch McConnell and his GOP colleagues bow to the will of the NRA while our loved ones are dying needless deaths.
Oregon’s Democratic Members of Congress are working hard to save our democracy and save lives with gun violence prevention legislation. We must keep calling and showing our support for their work. Together we shall overcome.
