CONGRESS MUST PROTECT DREAMERS LEGISLATIVELY AND REMOVE STEPHEN MILLER

ACTION ONE: CALL YOUR SENATORS

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WYDEN AND MERKLEY:

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because…
Trump’s efforts to eliminate DACA are part of the same unjust immigration policy that separated families, threw children into cages, and shut down the government to secure funding for his racist border wall. They’re all the brainchild of Stephen Miller, an exposed white supremacist. Neither he nor his ideology belongs in government. While the Senator works to support impeachment, he must also: (1) insist on Miller’s removal, and (2) demand that the Dream and Promise Act (H.R.6) be immediately brought to the Senate floor for a vote. Thank you.

ACTION TWO: CALL YOUR HOUSE REPS

Not sure who your U.S. Representative is? Find out here.

SAMPLE SCRIPTS FOR REPRESENTATIVES:

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because…
FOR ALL BUT WALDEN:  Trump’s efforts to eliminate DACA are part of the same unjust immigration policy that separated families, threw children into cages, and shut down the government to secure funding for his racist border wall. They’re all the brainchild of Stephen Miller, an exposed white supremacist. Neither he nor his ideology belongs in government. While the Representative works to support the impeachment process[he/she] must also insist that Miller must immediately be removed. Thank you.
FOR WALDEN:  Trump’s efforts to eliminate DACA are part of the same unjust immigration policy that separated families, threw children into cages, and shut down the government to secure funding for his racist border wall. They’re all the brainchild of Stephen Miller, an exposed white supremacist. Neither he nor his ideology belongs in government. I am asking the Representative to put humanity and the country over party and convince Trump that Miller must immediately be removed. Thank you.

BACKGROUND:

Despite massive support for Dreamers, Supreme Court likely will vote 5-4 to permit DACA’s demise—validating blatant racism and white nationalism at heart of Trump’s anti-immigrant policies.
That would be sad day for American Dream and DACA recipients’ contributions to our communities:
  • more than 90% employed
  • 45% in school
  • 1000+ served in armed forces
While Trump sometimes expressed support for Dreamers, advisor Stephen Miller always dissuaded him. Miller’s recent unmasking as a xenophobic, white supremacist demonstrates racist, un-American underpinnings of Trump’s anti-DACA policy and makes Miller completely unsuitable for even Trump’s administration.
Congress can and must immediately eliminate continued victimization of DACA recipients—Americans in all but legal status. In March 2019, bills were introduced in both Houses providingpathway to citizenship. Dream and Promise Act (H.R.6), which applies to both Dreamers and TPS holders, passed the House in June 237-187, with 7 Republicans voting favorably. McConnell refuses to bring it or S.874 up for a vote.
Miller and his ideology don’t belong in government and our MoCs must work for his removal. We must also demand that H.R. 6 be brought up for immediate Senate vote so Dreamers won’t continue being held hostage to racism.
