BACKGROUND:

Trump’s racism, white nationalism, and fascism are on full display. On Wednesday, the first day of school, nearly 650 armed, black-shirted ICE agents, descended on 7 poultry processing plants in Mississippi, arresting 680 Latino workers. At least one American citizen was tased and cuffed, before being released. No employers were charged.
Their children were terrified after coming home from school to empty houses or being locked out because their parents were detained by ICE. They sobbed as they waited to hear when or if they would see them again. The ICE-caused trauma will last forever.
These raids, whose footage Trump will use in campaign ads, are an act of state terrorism. Coming just days after the El Paso massacre and driven by Trump’s hateful words, these raids have intensified Latinos’ sense of vulnerability.
This was the largest single-state workplace sting ever. And it won’t be the last if Trump has his way.
We cannot allow Trump to turn us into a version of Nazi Germany. We cannot condone our taxes being used to wage war against brown and black people. Congress can no longer look the other way. It must do its job and start an immediate impeachment inquiry.
