We Need A Clean DREAM Bill Now

Trump’s order to end DACA has thrown the lives and futures of 690,000 DREAMers into chaos.  Hundreds are losing their protected status every day while their fates wind through the courts.

Last week a federal judge ruled that Trump’s directive was “arbitrary and capricious”.  Two other federal courts have handed down similar rulings, one citing Trump’s clearly racist language as a major factor in his decision.

All three court decisions are being appealed by the Administration. If the fate of DACA is left to the judicial branch, it will likely end up in the conservative majority Supreme Court.

A large majority of Americans support DREAMers and a path to citizenship in a country that is often the only one they have ever known.

Congress seems unlikely to risk political damage by addressing a DREAM bill before the midterm elections.  It’s up to us to demand action now.  All DREAMers including the 3.6 million not currently enrolled in DACA need the protection of a clean DREAM bill - one without racist provisions like a border wall and increased funding for detention centers and ICE raids.

Tell your MOC’s they must pass a clean DREAM bill now.

**ACTION 1: CALL BOTH OUR SENATORS AND YOUR REPRESENTATIVE **
(Leave a message if you can’t get through.)

SAMPLE SCRIPT:
“My name is [--] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].  Millions of DREAMers face losing the opportunity to work, study and serve their communities in the only country they have ever known.  They can’t depend only on the courts to protect them.  I am asking the Senator/Representative to do all he/she can to bring a clean DREAM act to a vote now.  Thank you.

**ACTION 2:  REMEMBER FOR THE MIDTERMS**

It has become clear that we need a different Congress to help DREAMers.  Make sure you and everyone you know is registered to vote.  Check Indivisible Oregon’s website (www.IndivisibleOR.org) for a list of election resources. The 2018 elections will be most important of our lives.
