SAVE FUEL EFFICIENCY STANDARDS FROM TRUMP

Trump launched another bizarre attack on the environment Monday when the Administration announced it would abandon 2025 fuel efficiency standards for cars and trucks.

The action kills America’s most aggressive effort to cut greenhouse gases. The targets would have saved 6 billion tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere

With lower gas mileage, car owners will spend an additional $1.7 trillion at the pump.

Even carmakers had mixed reactions to the announcement.
• They were on track to reach 50 mpg by 2025.
• Ford and Honda didn’t want a rollback.
• US automakers will fall to their international competitors who are meeting efficiency goals.
• It plunges the auto industry into legal limbo as California and other states, representing a third of the US market, fight to maintain the standards.

This isn’t Trump’s only senseless assault on the environment. In January, the Administration announced it was opening almost all coastal waters to oil and gas drilling.
But less than 1% of the drilling permits went at auction last month.

Congress needs to do its job. Unfortunately, the GOP plans little action this year to allow vulnerable members more time to campaign. So Democrats need to step up and fight these meretricious environmental assaults.

**ACTION 1: CALL BOTH SENATORS and YOUR REPRESENTATIVE**

SAMPLE SCRIPT – for all
“My name is [--] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling to express my strong disapproval of Trump’s repeal of the fuel efficiency standards. Carmakers don’t want it, nor do consumers who will pay billions more at the pump. It’s a massive attack on global warming and public health will suffer. I ask that the Senator/Rep lead the effort to maintain these vital standards. Thank you.”

**ACTION 2:  SEND THIS TO YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY.

Share this post with friends and family, especially in red states.  Help them call their Members of Congress and tell them that Trump’s repeal of the fuel efficiency standards is a senseless attack on the environment. Carmakers don’t want it, nor do consumers who will pay billions more at the pump. And it’s a massive attack on global warming and the public’s health will suffer.
