FIGHT FOR IMMIGRANTS

#NoBorderWall
#ImmigrationReform

Trump has launched new fronts in his ongoing war on immigration. For this racist president, visa applicants are likely to be terrorists, undocumented immigrants are probably rapists and drug dealers, and those shielded in the US on Temporary Protective Status have overstayed and need to go home, and they should take the Dreamers with them.

It can’t happen fast enough for him. Lately, he has:

• Ordered the deployment the National Guard along the border.
• Given immigration judges quotas to fast-track proceedings.
• Proposed rejecting green card applicants if they or a member of their family used federal assistance programs.
• Wants closed military bases to be used as prisons for undocumented immigrants awaiting hearings.
• Inserted a citizenship question to the census questionnaire, in a move that determines who is counted and who doesn’t count in Trump’s America.

It’s impossible to know if he is pandering to his base or deluded by Fox News. But it’s extensively documented that immigration is vital to America’s national security, economy, cultural richness and national identity.

We ask our MoC to identify every Trump immigration move as part of his war on immigrants and to affirm that immigration is indispensable to America.

**ACTION 1: CALL BOTH SENATORS and YOUR REPRESENTATIVE**

SAMPLE SCRIPT – for Merkley and Wyden:
“My name is [--] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling to express my strong opposition to Trump’s war on immigrants. I’m asking the Senator to speak out about the value of immigration to our country, our national security and our economy.  Trump is undermining one of America’s oldest values, that we are all created equal and should have a fair shot at life, liberty and happiness. I also ask the Senator to support S. 2580, the Every Person Counts Act, to prohibit the inclusion of a citizenship question in the Census, as well as continue the work to help DACA and TPS recipients. Thank you.”

SAMPLE SCRIPT – for Reps Blumenauer, Bonamici, DeFazio and Schrader:
“My name is [--] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling to express my strong opposition to Trump’s war on immigrants. I’m asking the Representative to speak out about the value of immigration to our country, our national security and our economy.  Trump is undermining one of America’s oldest values, that we are all created equal and should have a fair shot at life, liberty and happiness. I also ask that the Representative to support H.R. 4906, “Ensuring Full Participation in the Census Act of 2018,” to prohibit the inclusion of a citizenship question in the Census, as well as continue the work to help DACA and TPS recipients. Thank you.”

SAMPLE SCRIPT – for Walden:
“My name is [--] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon, [zip code]. I am calling to express my strong disapproval of Trump’s war on immigration. We already have a manpower shortfall and it will only get worse if the President further limits the number of legal immigrants allowed into the country. The Representative can start by supporting H.R. 4906, “Ensuring Full Participation in the Census Act of 2018,” to prohibit the inclusion of a citizenship question in the Census. Thank you.”

**ACTION 2:  SEND THIS TO YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY.

Share this post and the following message with friends and family, especially in red states.

“Trump has been busy eliminating every avenue of immigration although we are a nation of immigrants. Remember what Robert F. Kennedy said: “Our attitude towards immigration reflects our faith in the American ideal.” Well, I have faith that hardworking people, who value family and community should be – not just allowed into the country – but welcomed here. Without immigrants we wouldn’t have Kraft, eBay, Tesla, Google Yahoo or Intel. Yes, our immigration system is flawed and the flaws should be fixed but attacking immigrants as the president has done only poisons the debate we need to have in this country.”
