The truth about the Republican tax bill, per the Washington Post: “the GOP lost focus on the middle class.” Per Rep Mark Sanford, the bill is “fundamentally a corporate tax reduction and restructuring bill”. Paul Ryan plans to use its $1.5 trillion deficit to justify cuts to Medicare and entitlements.
Passing Round 1 of this Tax Scam wasn’t the only disappointing recent vote. Congress passed a 2-week continuing budget resolution, to keep the government running – but it failed to address priorities, like providing a path to citizenship for Dreamers. During this 2-week period alone, 1,708 childhood arrivals risk deportation.
Dreamers play an important role in American society and the economy. Support for them is widespread across the country and Congress. Democrats vowed to pass a clean DREAM Act, but missed an opportunity to do so when they agreed to the 2-week extension.
Nancy Pelosi is sending conflicting messages about Democrats’ priorities, saying: “Democrats are not willing to shut government down” and “We will not leave here without a DACA fix.” Yet, if Dems are serious about protecting Dreamers, they must be willing to prioritize the DREAM Act.
We must make our priorities clear: do all you can to stop the Trump Tax Scam and pass a clean DREAM Act!
