DEMOCRATS: PLAY HARDBALL TO PROTECT WHAT’S IMPORTANT
————————————————————————————
#WhenWeFightWeWin
#TrumpTaxScam

We have only four days before the government runs out of money.   To keep the government open, Congress must pass a Continuing Resolution (CR).  This is our opportunity to halt the damage that this administration is inflicting on America.

The good news: Democrats have leverage.  The Senate needs 60 votes to pass a CR -- that’s eight Democratic votes.

The bad news: Democrats may cave as they did in September, when Schumer and Pelosi met with McConnell, Ryan and Trump.  They cut a deal that left out Dreamers and cleared the schedule for Trumpcare vote.

This time, we want Democratic negotiators to play hardball.

We want a CR that:

1. PROTECTS DREAMERS. Secure a clean DREAM Act.

2. PROTECTS REFUGEES.  Reinstate Temporary Protected Status for more than 320,000 refugees of war or natural disasters.

3. PROTECTS CHILDREN, WOMEN AND THE POOR. Fund the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), Community Health Centers and Planned Parenthood.

4. PROTECTS OUR CARE. Guarantee health insurance cost-sharing reimbursement (CSR) payments withdrawn by Trump.

Democrats represent 53% of the American people. Tell them to be tough negotiators, and stand up for the 90%.

Meanwhile... Oregon's lone Republican, Rep. Walden will be particularly influential in determining the final version of the tax bill: he was just named to the conference committee that will reconcile the House and Senate versions.  District 2: You know what to do!  Keep lighting up the phones!

**ACTION 1: CALL OUR SENATORS AND REPRESENTATIVES**

[If you don’t want to list all demands, mention only the one you care most about]

SAMPLE SCRIPT for both Senators and All Reps except Walden:
“My name is [--] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon, [zip code]. The deadline for funding the government is coming up. I understand that the Republicans want a continuing resolution.  Don't let them have it for nothing. This time I want you to play hardball, and vote only for a continuing resolution with:
1) a clean DREAM Act and protections for refugees with Temporary Protected Status;
2) funds for CHIP, Community Health Centers, and Planned Parenthood;
3) guarantees for CSR payments;
4) funding relief efforts for areas hit by natural disasters.
Thank you.”

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WALDEN:
"My name is [--] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon, [zip code].  I'm calling about the tax scam.  I see that Rep Walden has been named to the Conference Committee to reconcile the House and Senate bills. This is a chance to show he represents the people of his district, not large corporations.  I'm asking him to save our healthcare and create a tax bill that benefits ALL of his constituents, not his wealthiest donors. Thank you."
