Close to 300 people rallied at the March 4 Stop the Coup! protest in Astoria. People brought chocolate, cookies and extra signs to share. Bebe Michel's buttons were a hit, as always. The rain stopped so we could have a dry, even sunny protest.More photos below.

VOICES: NEWS AND PERSPECTIVE
-- Robert Reich, March 7, 2025
"THE GREAT AMERICAN PUSHBACK"
"... an increasingly loud, though still coalescing campaign against the extreme Trump/Musk agenda is finally mobilizing - a broad, politically diverse and growing political movement in America. Don’t want to call it the #resistance? Fine. I’ll refer to it as, “The Great American Pushback.” Or the GAP.
"...The clean-up on aisle DOGE is just one example that democracy can be slippery when wet. Just about every action taken by Trump and Musk has fallen flat in the latest public approval polls. Aaron Blake of the Washington Post neatly assembled some recent numbers in one damning post. Trump Agenda Unpopular" -- The Jim Acosta Show, Substack, March 9, 2025
OUR CHOICE
"The choice is democracy or dictatorship. Self-government or oligarchy. Everyone must choose sides. Not to choose is to accept the forces now in control — to allow Trump to become even more of a dictator and his billionaire backers and cronies to siphon up even more oligarchic wealth and power.
".... In other words, one of the best way of coping with this nightmare is to fight it." -- Robert Reich, Substack, March 9, 2025
INDIVISIBLE'S BIG TENT PRO-DEMOCRACY MOVEMENT
"There is no historical example of beating authoritarianism by standing back and waiting patiently for the authoritarians to take themselves down. The only thing that beats creeping authoritarianism is a strong, broad-based, big tent pro-democracy movement led by people on the ground in every community. We cannot count on that movement naturally arising -- we have to build it. That means action -- public, visible, raise-the-alarm-because-this-is-not-normal-or-acceptable sort of action.
"OK so how can we do that strategically? Good news: We’re doing it." --Ezra Levin, Co-Executive Director, Indivisible, March 3, 2025
"THE RECOVERY OF MORAL HEALTH"
“And do not suppose that this is the end. This is only the beginning of the reckoning. This is only the first sip, the first foretaste of a bitter cup which will be proffered to us year by year unless by a supreme recovery of moral health and martial vigour, we arise again and take our stand for freedom as in the olden time.” - Winston Churchill, remarks on the Munich Agreement, 1938
