"The elephant in the room these days is that most Republicans, along with many pundits, are pretending that Trump is a normal presidential candidate. They are ignoring his mental lapses, calls for authoritarianism, grifting, lack of grasp on any sort of policy, and criminality, even as he has hollowed out the once grand Republican Party and threatens American democracy itself." -- Heather Cox Richardson, Letters from an American, August 27, 2024
I was a staunch Joe Biden supporter and was upset at the pressure for him to drop his candidacy. But when he did, and I listened to Kamala Harris, I realized that she was bringing the country something nobody else could in the same way: joy and hope. And I realized that I was very hungry for something positive in our politics, and the direction our country has taken. If I was that hungry for positivity, certainly the rest of the country was, too. And we can see it in the way people have responded to such a great candidate. Kamala Harris is able to show the world exactly how small trump really is, just by being herself. I, for one, am grateful to see hope and joy in politics. We've never needed it more. -- Susan Stone, Reader's Comment, Lucid on Substack, August 28, 2024

Trump’s Project 2025 would ban medication abortion, effectively ending access to abortion for millions of Americans.
The plan says that any books, movies, and TV shows that include LGBTQ+ content or characters are pornographic.
Project 2025 gives states the right to ignore overtime, minimum wage, and child labor laws.
It would end all student loan forgiveness programs, including for public service, and some folks would see their loan payments double.
Project 2025 eliminates laws that protect against racial discrimination in housing, the labor market, and schools, ending protections that have been in place for decades.
