DEMOCRACY PREVAILED
THANK YOU: COUNTRY OVER PARTY
"I decided to commemorate the day by writing to each member of the committee investigating the January 6 attack on the US Capitol and thank them for their work. I disagree with Cheney and Kinzinger on just about everything when it comes to policy, but I am so grateful that they are putting country over party when it comes to the insurrection."
-- Bebe Michel, INCO postcarding guru

You can send a thank you postcard, too!

MEET MELISSA BUSCH ON JANUARY 22
All Indivisibles are invited to meet Melissa Busch via Zoom at the INCO meeting  Saturday, January 22 at 11 a.m. We invited Melissa to speak shortly after she filed to run for the state senate seat, then held by Betsy Johnson. After Johnson resigned from the senate, Melissa applied to fill the vacancy and is one of the three finalists, as described above. The five county commissions in this senate district (SD16) will choose the interim state senator on Friday, January 14.

"I will certainly still be running for the SD16 seat, whether I am appointed for the remainder of the current term or not, so I’d love to share more about myself and my campaign, as well as answer any questions the group may have for me," Melissa emailed to INCO.

EMERGE AND RUN
Emerge is a national organization that recruits and trains Democratic women to run for office. It focuses on effective state and national programming that gives women the tools they need to run and win. Several area women have taken part in Emerge training to learn how to run for office.  More information here.

In May, Clatsop County voters will be electing candidates for local and county positions, including County Commissioners, Districts 1, 3, and 5.

If you don't run for office, who will?
WRITE POSTCARDS FOR JAMIE FOR OREGON
Jamie McLeod-Skinner is challenging incumbent conservative Democrat Kurt Schrader to be the US Representative from District 5. Many of us locals who met Jamie in her previous campaign were impressed with her values, policy ideas, and understanding of the concerns of rural Oregonians.

You can be part of a statewide effort to support Jamie! If you'd like to write postcards to voters for her campaign, please contact incoregon@gmail.com.
THE GOP: PARTY OVER COUNTRY
Congressional Republicans chose to obey Trump and GOP leaders by refusing to commemorate the January 6 insurrection, honor the officers who defended them, and memorialize those who died. The only Republican Member of Congress who attended was Representative Lynn Cheney.
MAJOR CORPORATIONS SUPPORT SEDITIONISTS
Major corporations are donating millions to most of the 147 lawmakers in Congress who voted to overturn the election results last year. The original report published this week by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington is here. The New York Times article is here.

Outraged Americans are writing to those companies. You can, too. An example and more information is in Robert Hubbell's column
here.
