OUR DEMOCRACY COMMUNITY IN ACTION!
HANDS OFF!
April 5, 2025  •  Astoria, Oregon
Hooray for everyone - about 1000-1200 of you! - in the democracy community at Saturday's Hands Off! protest in Astoria. Here's a panorama video showing part of the crowd in Astoria on Saturday. People lined Marine Drive from Roby's to about 1/2-block past the movie theater.

There were more than 40 Hands Off! protests in Oregon, including in Manzanita, Tillamook, and Cannon Beach.

*"Millions of us took to the streets at nearly 1,300 events in Washington, D.C., and all 50 states to make clear that we do not consent to Trump and Elon Musk destroying our country to benefit themselves and their billionaire buddies.

"100,000 people in Washington, D.C. Massive crowds in New York, Minneapolis, and Seattle. And, just as critically, hundreds of smaller events, including all over red America, from Logan, Utah, to Tupelo, Mississippi, to Mitchell, South Dakota."

THANK YOU
My sister Mary and I attended the rally on April 5th from 11:45AM to 1:30PM.
We were with another friend and stood near two young men who made signs from cardboard boxes and others around us with wonderful signs too!

We shouted and chanted and really felt it was a fabulous and well attended rally!

Then we went to Mo's for lunch. Shortly after we  ordered, a couple was leaving and came over and introduced themselves as visitors from Montana. They told us they came into town thru the rally and wanted to thank us for being participants. They talked about how they felt and said they would have attended at home.

When Mary and I were almost finished with our meal, a woman and her daughters were leaving and approached us and again they had seen our signs and wanted to thank us too! They introduced themselves as "visitors from the red state of Nebraska." This time I did cry...I was emotional because we all have been so upset for weeks and here were people just visiting and felt just like we do.

I wanted to share this happening that came about because we stepped up and attended the rally along with so many others!

We need to help save our democracy in every way possible!
Thanks for reading,
Janie

HANDS OFF! AROUND THE COUNTRY
*"White River Junction VT - people from babies to 80+ year old veterans of the anti Vietnam Resistance lined the streets with home made signs. 98% of the passing cars honked & waved in support. The organizers expected 50 people, 760 signed up & 1500 showed up. As a vet of both anti-Vietnam civil disobedience and Act Up demos during the AIDS crisis, I had made & gave away bumper stickers saying "Silence = Death of Democracy." People loved them."
–Heather, Reader's Comment, The Borowitz Report, April 6, 2025

*"In Hendersonville, NC, a town of 15,000 residents, 1500 people showed up for the Hands Off! resist, Insist, Persist rally. The city blocked off a section of Main Street for this peaceful rally promoting racial equality, LGBTQ+ rights, land conservation, immigration protection, Helene rebuilding efforts and more."
–Bill, Reader's Comment, The Borowitz Report, April 6, 2025

*"We gathered at a “Hands Off” protest in the small city of Claremont, CA with 1500+ demonstrating against PINO, DOGE and the egregious attacks against our democracy. Lots of people driving by honking in support. Friendly people with great energy. We made 'good trouble'!"
