9-11-23 Newsletter

IN MEMORIAM
The 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
A fourth plane crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania after its passengers, informed of events via cellular phone, attempted to overpower their assailants.

"We were unprepared, but we responded and came together in remarkable, heartfelt ways."

ENDING THE CULT OF MAGA
"The next generation isn't buying it."

•  Check out this encouraging article in The Atlantic about cults and human nature. It's a serious piece by Peter Sagal, host of NPR's 'Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me.'

"What are we doing here? Loving our country, that’s what. And each other. And our planet. What a wonderful thing! As a subscriber reminded me in an email yesterday: “Love is one of the superpowers of the universe.” She’s right, of course. More powerful even than “anti-hate.”

"So today we’ll show our love for this messy country of ours through our positive, pro-democratic, hopeful actions. What an honor! What a joy!

"What a superpower. How lucky we are to have it."

•  FULTON COUNTY HEARING LIVESTREAM
Q. What was better than Perry Mason, Judge Judy, and most tv and movie courtroom dramas?
A.  The livestream of Thursday's hearing in Fulton County, Georgia regarding two of the coup plotters, Ken Chesebro and Sydney Powell. It had none of the fireworks or histrionics I'd dreaded; instead I could hear the attorneys's presentations and the judge's thoughtful questions and follow the discussion and procedure. I loved it and am eager to watch other coup-related hearings and trials. I highly recommend you watch, too. Here's
the link to the coverage; the judge enters to start the hearing at about 16 minutes.

INSIGHTS
"Ultimately, the best approach if you don’t want to be tried with someone is not to commit crimes with them."
